The Oakland Raiders seem to be following quarterback Derek Carr and his trusty moral compass.
As Silver & Black Pride recently pointed out, the Raiders are the only team that have not had a player arrested in the past three years. We double-checked USA TODAY’s NFL Arrest Database, and it’s true — no Raider has been arrested since the team selected Carr in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

The last Raiders player to be arrested was running back Kory Sheets, who was pulled over for speeding in Canada and accused of marijuana possession in March of 2014, per USA TODAY. That was less than two months before Carr was drafted.
Carr, of course, is not completely responsible for his teammates staying out of trouble. Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack, who was selected one round ahead of Carr, is also a good leader. So is head coach Jack Del Rio.
The reason Carr gets the credit here is because of the culture he’s creating with the Raiders. His positivity and enthusiasm for doing good is infectious, and he uses it effectively as a motivation tool. That’s why free agents wanted to sign with Oakland after meeting with him this offseason and witnessing his genuine nature first hand.
This offseason alone has featured stories of Carr helping a stranger whose car had broke down and helping the Oakland Police Department find a missing child. These are headlines that his teammates, as well as his fans, should find incredibly uplifting.
Carr can’t keep everyone out of trouble, though. Aldon Smith, for example, is one Raiders player who has narrowly avoided multiple arrests. He was reportedly involved in a domestic “incident” that required police attention but no arrest in February. He was detained for public intoxication last month, but there were no charges filed and no official arrest was made. The fact that Smith is currently banished by the league and is not allowed to contact any of his teammates or coaches doesn’t help either.
Until one of Carr’s teammates is actually arrested, he’ll be praised for keeping them on the straight and narrow.
